our blades are sharp
“alone is such a nebulous state when one is queen.”

And one of the biggest indications of that female-friendly attitude is the fact that Arianne Martell, Oberyn’s niece and the daughter of Dornish leader Doran Martell (played by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine alum Alexander Siddig), is the heir to Dorne. That’s not the norm in Westeros (nor many of the medieval cultures Westeros is based on). If it were then Cersei would have been allowed to inherent Casterly Rock from Tywin, and Sansa and Arya would have been in line in front of Bran as the heirs of Winterfell. So Dorne and the Arianne plot should have been quite popular with modern viewers who are troubled by the role women in this medieval-esque world are often asked to play.

However, according to an official HBO press release, in next season of Game of Thrones, Arianne Martell, has apparently been replaced by her younger brother Trystane Martell (played by newcomer Toby Sebastian) as “the heir to Dorne.” In fact, Arianne, badass heiress, is nowhere to be seen.
